Open the MS-DOS prompt
1) To open the MS-DOS prompt from the 'Start' menu:
a) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
b) Select 'Programs' and select 'MS-DOS Prompt'.
2) (Optional) To create a shortcut on the Windows desktop:
a) Right-click the desktop. (A pop-up menu appears.)
b) Select 'New'. (A submenu appears.)
c) Select 'Shortcut'. (The 'Create Shortcut' dialog box appears.)
d) Type the following in the 'Command line' box:
COMMAND.COM
e) Click 'Next'. (The MS-DOS prompt will already be listed in the 'Select a name for the shortcut' box.)
f) (Optional) Type a different name in the 'Select a name for the shortcut' box.
g) Click 'Finish'. (A shortcut to the MS-DOS prompt appears on the desktop.)
NOTE: To open the 'MS-DOS Prompt' window, double-click the icon shortcut.)
